An "event log" is an essential piece of data created automatically by applications and operating systems any time an event occurs. These are filtered into "Information", "warnings" and "Error", with a normal desktop PC or server creating thousands of logs each day.

Due to the sheer volume of logs, the industry standard support model is to look at the logs once a month then disregard the "information" logs and only focus on the "Warning" and "Error" logs.
